What’s on TV Wednesday: ‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ and ‘Our House’

WU-TANG: AN AMERICAN SAGA Stream on Hulu. By the end of this year, audiences will have had two major chances to see the conception of the hip-hop collective the Wu-Tang Clan onscreen. “Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men,” a multipart Showtime documentary that aired in May, told the group’s story through archival footage and interviews with its members. The scripted mini-series “An American Saga” offers a factually looser version. It casts a group of actors (including Ashton Sanders, of “Moonlight” and the more recent “Native Son”) as the Wu-Tang Clan’s founding members, telling an embellished take on the story of their formation in New York City during the early 1990s. “The Wu-Tang story is vast and you really couldn’t contain it in a two or three hour movie,” the rapper RZA, who is one of the group’s founding members and a creator of the series, recently told The Associated Press. “Now, in a serial form, we can take our time and tell our story.”
