The latest crackdown against Venezuelan protesters has left at least 40 dead, many killed during nightly raids conducted by a balaclava-clad special police unit created by President Nicolás Maduro.
This round of protests began last week when Mr. Maduro’s opponents took to the streets to denounce him and embrace the opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, who proclaimed himself the country’s rightful president.
Millions of Venezuelans remain anxious about the future of their country, already crippled by hyperinflation and food and drug shortages.
