Hollywood is ‘racist,’ ‘very dangerous for our country’
President Donald Trump labeled Hollywood as “racist” on Friday, first in comments to the press at the White House and later in a pair of tweets.
“Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate!” he tweeted. “They like to call themselves ‘Elite,’ but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite.”
The president added: “The movie coming out is made in order… to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!”
Although Trump did not name the movie he was criticizing, his tweets come in the midst of backlash toward “The Hunt,” a film set for release in September. According to Rotten Tomatoes and The Hollywood Reporter, the movie follows a group of wealthy elites who hunt people in rural American for sport.
Earlier Friday, Trump took questions from reporters as he was leaving the White House. When asked about conservatives and Twitter, the president offered the following response.
“We’re looking at that right now,” he said. “We have a lot of these companies coming in a little while, as you know. We’re going to be very tough with them. They’re treating conservatives very unfairly.”
Trump then turned his answer to critique Hollywood.
“Hollywood, I don’t call them the elites,” he continued. “I think the elites are people they go after in many cases, but Hollywood is really terrible. You’re talking about racists? Hollywood is racist.”

The president added: “What they’re doing with the kind of movies they’re putting out, it’s actually very dangerous for our country. What Hollywood is doing is a tremendous disservice to our country.”
Trump did not share any specifics or indicate which films he was referring to.
“We have now, in a little while, all of the heads of the biggest companies coming in, and we’re gonna talk to them,” he continued. “They treat conservatives, Republicans totally different than they treat others.”
