Fatima Hellberg to Lead Germany’s Bonner Kunstverein

Swedish curator Fatima Hellberg, who has served as artistic director of the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart since 2015, has been named the next director of the Bonner Kunstverein in Bonn, Germany. Hellberg takes over the helm from Michelle Cotton, who joined the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean in Luxembourg as program director in April. She will assume her responsibilities in December.Prior to joining the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, where she developed an exhibition program that included shows by artists Gregg Bordowitz, Hildegarde Duane, and Leslie Thornton, among others, Hellberg served as curator at both Cubitt and Electra in London and taught at the Sandberg Institute, Oxford University, and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She has also curated exhibitions at institutions such as the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London; Tate Modern, London; and the CAA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco.Henning Boecker, chairman of the museum’s board, said in a statement that Hellberg’s appointment represents a new era for the Kunstverein. She will be tasked with questioning the “identity and topicality of the ‘Kunstverein model,’” which will be “engaged with and explored anew.”
